Yesterday I doubled. 6 easy in the morning at 7:29 pace, 4 easy in the afternoon at 6:47 pace. It got pretty cold in the afternoon. It was probably warmer than in the morning, but it was windy and I wasn't dressed enough. I wish I'd worn a hat. In the afternoon, my right foot felt a little flat. Almost as though my shoes were done. Today I'm tired.
This morning I did a track workout. 8 x 1000 with a goal of 3:20. It was a little above freezing with enough moisture in the air after some freezing rain last night to get me pretty wet during the run. Justin and his friend met me, Joey Hess did not show. We warmed up for 2 miles (about 16 minutes) and went into the workout. I started off too slow the first 400 (43, 43), and took a little longer to get into pace. #1 was 3:30. Recovery was 2 minutes of standing around. I walked about 100 meters in those 2 minutes each time. So after #1 being too slow, I got into it. My first 200 for the rest of the way was about 36-37, with a 34 on #6 and #8. The splits were 3:30, 3:19, 3:18, 3:16, 3:17, 3:17, 3:16, 3:16.
Justin ran the first 5. He was about 20 seconds behind me. I was trying to talk him into 6, but he said he didn't have time. Then he stuck around while I did #6 and he waited for his friend. Lame. Those were the easiest ones. On #6, I got tired around 900m. 700 on #7, and 400 on #8. It was getting harder. And for some reason the homestretch froze WHILE we were there. It wasn't frozen when we got there, but it certainly was during the last half of the workout. Strange.
The workout was good though. It was hard to do it, but not so hard doing it. Once I got into the rhythm of it, it was fine. Could I do it for a 4 miler on Sunday? Probably not. But I was running faster than I was supposed to.
