I didn't get much sleep last night before meeting Tim for a long run this morning. I was planning 2 hours/18 miles, but I was just suffering through it and decided not to pursue that last mile. It's not going to do me any good tomorrow, nor will it make me any faster in two weeks. I thought we were running a whole lot slower than we actually were; I think I just happened to look at my watch when I was running particularly slow at that moment for some reason. Who knows. It wasn't the most pleasant long run though.
I was getting pulled along for the last half of the run for sure. We stopped at the Y both times, once for the bathroom and once for water. I tightened my heart rate monitor strap on the first stop and then at the end of the run when I was struggling to breath the last two or three miles, I couldn't shake the suspicion that it had something to do with that. I need to find a comfortable tightness for it again. Lately it was too loose, but today it was too tight.
Tomorrow is the John Robbins 8k, the first grand prix race of the season. I almost don't care, although a week ago I was looking forward to it. In the last 7 days I've raced a half-marathon, done two workouts, one long run, and run over 88 miles. The race is just another workout before I start tapering for the Shamrock Half-- a workout I've trained through... If I can run a faster pace than I did at Colonial I'll be happy, and under 27 would be great with me. But even if I don't, I told KC I wouldn't be upset (she doesn't believe me.) Just so long as I don't come home injured tomorrow.
