John Robbins 8K

Boy, this was a poor showing. I knew it was coming though; I made zero effort physically or mentally to be prepared for this race. 27:52. Tim finished more than 3 minutes ahead of me, and I was a minute ahead of third place. 5:31, 5:41, 5:42, 5:36, 5:19. When I looked at my watch and realized that Tim was probably already finished 3 minutes into the 5th mile, I decided to run faster. So I kicked it in for 2 minutes, that was about it. Last week I ran 27:37 through 5 miles. 5 hilly miles.

I felt really heavy during the race. Another runner fell before the start and so the race was delayed about 11 minutes while the ambulance took her away. It's very sad for her, but I think she's going to be ok. So we all just stood there for a while, bouncing around, but getting pretty cold. Tim went out and I just tried to stay slow. I would have honestly liked to have gone out slower than I did. I was happy to have another pace-run effort, but need to run faster than that for a half-marathon in 2 weeks. The next two weeks will be nice and easy, just so I can recover and taper. I still ran 78 miles this week, with a race, a long run and two workouts.

I was up at 3am today so I was pretty tired before the race, and then I took a nice nap from about 1pm to 5pm this afternoon. Now it's back to bed, still quite sore as I didn't get to stretch after the race. No Garmin today, I don't need to wear it in a race.
